Angled Parking

Overview
Review and evaluate angled parking, also known as nose-in parking, in cul-de-sacs throughout Prince William County. Staff’s work should include, but not be limited to, reviewing and evaluating potential options to restrict or prohibit angled parking in cul-de-sacs, where appropriate and consistent with applicable law, on both public and private roads and streets, including in order to support Public Safety operations and help ensure that Police, Emergency Services, and Fire and Rescue personnel maintain safe, reliable, and unobstructed access to Prince William County communities and residents. Among other things, staff should review, evaluate, and report back to the Board with: 1. An assessment of cul-de-sacs within Prince William County where angled parking is currently permitted; 2. Information on the current enforcement mechanisms related to illegal angled parking, including, but not limited to, ticketing, citations, and penalties, and any potential changes or additions to these enforcement mechanisms; and 3. An analysis of the County’s existing authority to prohibit or regulate angled parking on public and private roads and streets, including a detailed list of use situations where such prohibitions could potentially be applied. The County Executive is directed to bring back any appropriate recommendations for the Board’s consideration, including any recommended amendments to the County Code or other County regulations or standards. Such recommendations should, where applicable, include timelines, fiscal impacts, and other pertinent impacts for Board consideration. The County Attorney’s Office is directed to review the information and recommendations for any legal issues. When the research and work are complete, the County Executive should report back to the Board with their analysis and recommendations during a Board meeting or by memorandum, as they determine appropriate.
