Community Gardens

Overview

On June 3rd, 2025, the Board issued DIR 21-19 directing the County Executive to work with staff to explore options for establishing two additional community gardens on County-owned property and report back to the Board with recommendations. The Board asked that consideration be given to, among other things, one-time and recurring costs to develop, maintain, and operate the gardens, potential partnerships with private organizations, assessing community demand, and any insurance implications. The County Executive was directed to work with staff to add a potential Botanical Garden at Fettler Park to the options they explore as part of the directive response. The County Attorney’s Office was directed to review the information and recommendations for any legal issues. When the research and work are complete, the County Executive should report back to the Board with the research and recommendations during a Board meeting or by memorandum, as appropriate.
